To efficiently inhibit generation of abnormal noise by adjusting suction initiation timing according to the operating condition of a piston type compressor, in the piston type compressor using a rotary valve as an intake valve.
A suction valve arrangement 55 is provided with a rotary valve 35 with a suction guide hole 37 which introduces refrigerant gas from a suction chamber 27 to a compression chamber 26. A valve hole 43a which is always connected to the suction chamber 27, and a connecting hole 47 which is connected to the compression chamber 26 in a stroke of increasing capacity ahead of the suction guide hole 37 are formed in the rotary valve 35. The poppet 44 opens or closes between the valve hole 43a and the connecting hole 47 corresponding to a difference between a force based on pressure on the suction chamber 27 which acts in the valve opening direction and a force based on pressure on the compressed chamber 26 which acts in the valve closing direction, thus the actual inhalation initiation timing is prevented from being delayed from an optimal inhalation initiation timing.
