To prevent a cutter arranged on a cutting roll from becoming partially worn out by shuttling the cutting roll back-forth in a direction which is orthogonal with a direction in which a work is conveyed.
A cutting roll 10 is shuttled back-forth by a desired distance along its center axial line during a rotary cutting operation. That is, the cutting roll 19 is supported, in a freely rotating manner, with bearings 12, which in turn, are mounted in a freely sliding manner, with the cutting roll 10 through a first sliding member and a second sliding member 22. In addition, on one of the end parts of the cutting roll 10, a moving mechanism 24 with a rotation drive source 26 is arranged. After the cutting process of a work 52 conveyed on a table 70 only for a required time, the work 52 can be cut within a specified range of a cutter 66 by moving the cutting roll 10 through the moving mechanism 24.
