Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a plant which has tolerance or resists against herbicidal activity of a glutamine syinthase inhibitor by introducing into a plant cell genome a chimeric gene containing (a) a specific promotor domain for a plant cell and (b) a DNA protecting a plant cell from a glutamine synthase inhibitor. followed by regenerating the plant.
SOLUTION: This plant is obtained by (I) incorporating into a nucleus genome of the starting plant cell a chimeric gene which contains serially (i) a promotor domain containing a promotor recognized by a polymerase of the plant cell and (ii) a coding domain containing a DNA fragment coding for a protein having acetyltransferase activity to a glutamine synthase inhibitor such as phosphinothricin. wherein the promotor is heterologous from the DNA fragment. followed by (II) regenerating from the cell the plant containing the chimeric gene in a nucleus genome of the cell, or (III) developing the plant containing the chimeric gene.
