Title:
POLARIZATION CHARACTERISTICS MEASURING METHOD
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3227934
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To make possible highly accurate measurement of the degree of polarization and the extinction ratio by employing a polarizer, having a known degree of polarization or extinction ratio, as a reference polarizer in addition to a polarizer beingmeasured.
CONSTITUTION: Four types of intensity of transmitted light are measured, i.e., the intensity of transmitted light IA($0) for a unit polarizer A, the intensity IA (θ0+90°) when the polarizer A is rotated by 90' about the optical axis, the intensity TAB($0, $0) when the transmission axis of the polarizers A, B is set at a parallel Nicol position in same orientation as the IA(θO), and the intensity IAB(QO, &bottom +90°) when the transmission axis of the polarizer A is set in same orientation as the IA(θO) and that of the polarizer B is set at an orthogonal Nicol position in same orientation as the IA ($ 0+90°). The polarization characteristics of an unknown polarizer B are the determined by calculation.
