Abstract:
To provide a polarizing optical element which is formed by directly bonding a polarizing layer to an optical anisotropic layer made of a birefringence-inducing material.SOLUTION: A polarizing optical element is provided, comprising an optical anisotropic layer made of a birefringence-inducing material and provided with at least a first orientation, and a polarizing layer directly bonded to the optical anisotropic layer, the polarizing layer containing a liquid crystal material and a diachronic dye. The first orientation of the optical anisotropic layer is not parallel to an absorption axis of the polarizing layer.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1A
