PURPOSE: To obtain a polychloroprene rubber which has excellent hue and resistance of hue to heat aging and ultraviolet rays unattainable by a conventional polychloroprene rubber.
CONSTITUTION: A polychloprene rubber has a wt.-average mol.wt. of 10,000 or higher and an L value, an a value, and a b value of hue measured by the Lab reflection method of 65 to 75, -0.5 to -3.0, and 5.0 to 8.0 respectively. The rubber after heat aging at 70° for 30 days has an L value, an a value, and a b value of hue measured by the Lab reflection method of 65 to 75, -2.5 to -1.5 and 9.0 to 12.0 respectively. A 5% soln. of the rubber in toluene has a hue expressed by extinction at 440nm of 0.03-0.08 and transparency expressed by extinction at 660nm of 0.01-0.04.
