PURPOSE: To provide a polyester fiber having a strength, elongation, birefringence, density and thermal shrinkage stress falling within respective specific ranges, producible by the melt-spinning at a specific speed and having high dyeability and low temperature dependency of thermal shrinkage stress.
CONSTITUTION: The objective polyester fiber has a strength of ≥4.0g/d, preferably ≥4.2g/d, an elongation of ≤45%, preferably ≤35%, a birefringence of ≥110×10-3, preferably ≥120×10-3, a density of 1.375W1.400g/cm3, preferably 1.380W1.395g/cm3 and a thermal shrinkage stress satisfying the formula I [ST100 and ST200 are shrinkage stress (mg/d) at 100°C and 200°C, respectively] and formula II [STmax is peak stress (mg/d) of the thermal shrinkage stress curve] and is produced by the melt-spinning of a polyester at a speed of ≥4,700m/min.
