To obtain a polymer composition the sulfonic acid group of which is easily controlled and which can form a composite membrane having an improved hot-water resistance without losing proton conductivity and mechanical strengths, and to prepare a composite membrane formed by using the polymer composition.

The polymer composition comprises a polyarylene (I) having a sulfonic acid group or groups and a polymer (II) having no sulfonic acid group. The polyarylene (I) having the sulfonic acid group or groups comprises repeating units represented by formula (A) and repeating units represented by formula (B).
