Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer gel lubrication method whereby the lubrication performance of a friction part of a hydrogel in water, such as one in an organism, is improved by clarifying the relation between the lubrication characteristics and chemical properties of the surface of the hydrogel under a low-load friction by controlling the chemical properties.
SOLUTION: In this lubrication method, a polymer gel is used as a lubricant by arranging it between relatively sliding members in water. The polymer gel is a hydrophilic one of which functional groups are hydrophilic. The presence of hydrophilic functional groups, which easily interact with water being a lubricant, enables the polymer gel to be used as an excellent lubricant in water.
