Abstract:
To provide a clearly transparent porous polymer with interconnected pores, by polymerizing both continuous micro-emulsion of water, a monomer, and a surfactant compatible with the monomer.
The micro-emulsion can contain further a drug to disperse the drug to one or both of the polymer and the pores, when the polymer is formed, and to release it therefrom, when the polymer comes into contact with a liquid. The drug may be an ophthalmic solution, and the polymer is used for forming a contact lens and a drug delivery device such as an artificial cornea.
