Abstract:
To provide low-density polysaccharide used for binder/filler useful as a vehicle for direct compression use.
This polysaccharide has a tap density of <0.05 g/ml. The polysaccharide, when used in an binding effective amount in a tablet, is characterized by preventing the crushing strength of the tablet from decreasing more than about a 20% decrease in crushing strength when exposed to 95% relative humidity at 25°C for 3 hours. The polysaccharide is preferably corn, waxy corn, high amylose corn, potato, tapioca, rice, sago, wheat or waxy sorghum starch.
