To provide a powdered ionic water-soluble polymer containing less impurities, reducing transportation cost and environmental load, and having a particular ionic properties; and to provide a powdered, ionic water-soluble polymer exhibiting excellent performance in an application as a coagulant, particularly in dehydration of sludge, dehydration of paper sludge and in a method for papermaking by adding to papermaking material; and to provide its application.
A dispersion, which comprises a continuous phase containing a dispersant and a hydrophobic dispersion medium and a dispersed phase essentially containing a cationic monomer and a polyfunctional monomer having a plurality of unsaturated double bonds, is subjected to an inverse suspension polymerization, subsequently the resulting polymer is dried to obtain an ionic water-soluble polymer which comprises one or a mixture of two selected from an ionic water-soluble polymer consisting of a powder having a charge inclusion rate of 35-90% and a powdered water-soluble polymer having a cationic group and a charge inclusion rate of 5% or more and less than 35%.
