To provide a power-assisted handcart which suppresses the power consumption of a battery.
In this cart, a motor 14 is connected to wheels via a powder clutch 10, a motor locking device locks the rotation of the motor, and the powder clutch 10 can vary the torque transmission ratio. A control device 3 operates the motor 14 and unlocks the motor locking device when the wheel rotational direction and the direction of the operating force are agreed with each other, and the powder clutch 10 is adjusted to a condition of its maximum transmission ratio. When the wheel rotational direction is opposite to the direction of the operating force, the motor is immobilized, and the motor locking device is locked to adjust the powder clutch 10 in a half-transmission ratio. When the wheel rotational direction is opposite to the direction of the operating force, the motor is turned off, and the motor is locked while suppressing the energy consumption, and the powder clutch 10 is adjusted to the half-transmission ratio while applying a brake. The power assist meeting the intention of an operator can be realized while the energy consumption is suppressed.
