To provide a power supply device of an illumination system capable of automatically selecting a power supply parameter, a power supply method, and an illumination assembly.

A power supply device 1 includes selection of a supply voltage or a supply current applied to an illumination system 3 having a plurality of light emitting diodes 16-19. A processing circuit 15 automatically detects a connection direction of the illumination system 3 by emitting at least one polarity test current pulse for detecting a current. Furthermore, the supply voltage and the supply current between the polarity test current pulses are monitored, and a direction of the current or the voltage is reversed for monitoring a current direction, and specifying a direction of the supply voltage or the supply current. Furthermore, the device and the method detect whether the illumination system is an illumination system, to which a stabilized voltage is supplied, or an illumination system, to which a stabilized current is supplied, according to an active resistance of the system.
