Abstract:

To obtain a compression self-ignition engine which can carry out the starting and the warming of the compression self-ignition in a good condition, and its starting method.

In order to start a pre-mixed compression self-ignition engine, an ignition mechanism 11 which can make a spark ignition to a pre-mixed gas in a combustion chamber is provided, and after the starting operation is carried out in the first drive condition to continue a drive by a spark ignition by operating the ignition mechanism 11, the ignition mechanism 11 is stopped, and the operation is transferred to the second drive condition to continue the drive by the compression self-ignition. In this case, while the temperature of the gas fed into the combustion chamber is set lower in the first drive condition, than the reference air feeding temperature in the second drive condition, the timing of the spark ignition is controlled to the timing for generating no knocking, so as to carry out the starting operation.
