To obtain a compression self-igniting engine which can carry out the starting and the warming of the compression self-igniting engine in a good condition, and its starting means.
An ignition mechanism 11 which can make a spark ignition to a pre-mixed gas in a combustion chamber, or an ignition mechanism which can make a spark ignition by a liquid injection, is provided, and after the starting movement is carried out in the first movement condition to continue the operation while carrying out the ignition operation by operating the ignition mechanism 11, the ignition mechanism 11 is stopped, and the operation is transferred to the second movement condition to continue the operation by a compression self-ignition. In this case, the combustion chamber inner pressure at the starting of the compression stroke is set lower in the first movement condition, than the combustion chamber inner pressure at the standard compression stroke starting time in the second movement condition, so as to carry out the starting operation.
