To suppress the occurrence of noise due to the self-ignition combustion of a premixture in a premixed compression selfignition gasoline engine in which the premixture is self-ignited by burning a flammable mixture near an ignition plug by spark ignition to raise the pressure in a cylinder.
This premixed compression selfignition gasoline engine comprises a fuel injection valve 1 for injecting a fuel directly into the cylinder and the ignition plug 2. A flammable mixture M1 is formed near the ignition plug by the injection of a fuel at the latter of the compression stroke by the fuel injection valve. The flammable mixture is burned due to the spark ignition by the ignition plug. To form a premixture not self-ignited even if the rise of the pressure in the cylinder due to the combustion of the flammable mixture is added to the compression by the piston and self-ignite the premixture, the fuel injection valve injects the fuel one time before the fuel is injected from the flammable mixture to form the mixture M2 for further raising the pressure in the cylinder by self-igniting when the pressure in the cylinder is raised due to the combustion of the flammable mixture in a part of inside of the cylinder.
