To provide a premixture compression self-ignition engine to suppress the damage of an ignition mechanism by a pressure wave generated through compression self-ignition combustion as starting and warming up operation is executed by spark ignition and improve its durability.
Fuel and gas containing combustion oxygen are sucked and compression self-ignition combustion of air-fuel premixture is executed in a combustion chamber 4 surrounded by the upper end face of a piston 8 and the inner surface of a cylinder 7. Reciprocating movement of the piston 8 is transferred to a crankshaft 11 by a coupling rod 10 and rotation of the crankshaft 11 is maintained. In a so formed premixture compression self-ignition engine, an ignition mechanism 2 to effect spark ignition of air-fuel premixture in the combustion chamber 4 during non-compression self-ignition operation is situated in the combustion chamber 4. In compression self-ignition combustion operation, a pressure wave preventing means 3 is provided to protect the ignition mechanism 2 from a pressure wave generated through combustion.
