Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain 4-hydroxymethyl-tetrahydropyrans suitable as a pre-product for preparation of plant protecting agents by catalytic hydrogenetion of a tetrahydropyrancarboxylic ester.
CONSTITUTION: Tetrahydropyrancarboxylic ester of formua I [wherein R1-R4 are each H, a 1-12C alkyl, 3-8C cycloalkyl, aryl or 7-20C alalkyl; R5 is H or a 1-12C alkyl] is reacted at a temp. of 50 to 400°C, particularly 180 to 260°C and under a pressure of 1 to 400 bar, particularly 50 to 300 bar in the presence of hydrogen and a hydrogenating catalyst to obtain 4-hydroxymethyl- tetrahydropyran of formua II. As the hydrogenating catalyst, one contng. copper and/or a metal of Group VII and/or a metal of Group VIII is used.
