Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for preparing an improved polyolefin which contains only a very small amt. of an inorg. residue and has high bulk density by comprising the step of (co)polymerizing an α-olefin in a specified manner.
SOLUTION: An α-olefin is brought into contact with a solid catalyst in the form of particles contg. a halogen, magnesium, and a group IV to VI transition metal and a Ziegler catalyst system comprising an organometal compd. of a group I to III metal to obtain a prepolymer in the form of particles. The prepolymer is then brought into contact with an α-olefin under continuous polymn. conditions in a gaseous phase in a fluidized bed to continuously prepare an α-olefin (co)polymer in the form of powder particles. In this process, the prepolymer contains a transition metal in an amt. of 2×10-3 to 10-1 g-mm atom per g, and is prepd. in the form of particles wherein the mass average diameter Dm is 80 to 300 μm and the ratio of the Dm to the log average diameter is ≤3, while the (co)polymer contains a transition metal in an amt. of less than 5×10-4 g-mm atom per g, and is prepd. in the form of a powder of particles having a mass average diameter of 300 to 1,500 μm.
