To prepare aromatic acetylenes useful as a structural unit of a liquid crystal and a precursor, etc., of an active compound at an industrially useful conversion rate and cost by using a palladacycle which is a new catalyst.
(B) A halogenated aromatic compound represented by the formula Ar-X (X is bromine, chlorine or the like) or an arylsulfonate is reacted with (C) a mono-substituted acetylene represented by the formula H-C≡C-R8a using (D) a palladim compound represented by formula III (R1 to R6 are each independentaly H, a 1-4C alkyl, a 1-4C alkoxy, NH2 or the like; Y is an anion of an inorganic or an organic acid) as a catalyst when preparing (A) an aromatic acetylene represented by the formula Ar-C≡C-R8a [Ar is a group represented by formula I or formula II (R1a to R7a are each mutually independently H, a 1-8C alkyl, o-phenyl, phenyl, fluorine, OH or the like); R8a is H, a 1-12C alkyl, Si(CH3)3, CH2OH, C(CH3)2OH or Ar]. trans-Di-μ-acetato-bis [o-(di-o- tolylphosphino)benzyl]dipalladium (II), etc., are cited as the component D.
