Abstract:
PURPOSE:To provide the subject polymer containing a reduced amount of foreign matters and having excellent heat resistance, strength, etc., by copolymerizing specific structural units. CONSTITUTION:(A) p-Hydroxybenzoic acid giving a structural unit of formula I is is reacted with polyethylene terephthalate, etc., giving a structural unit of formula II at 100-250 deg.C and the reaction product is polycondensed with a compound of formula III [X is R<->CO (R<-> is alkyl) or H; R is phenyl, alkyl, etc.], such as p-acetoxybenzoic acid preferably at 250-350 deg.C under vacuum to provide the objective polyester having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.5-5.0dl/g.
