PURPOSE: To obtain an organosiloxane without promoting cleavage of a bond between an organic group and Si by reacting an organodisiloxane with a chlorosilane in the presence of a phosphonitrilic chloride catalyst and a specific cocatalyst.
CONSTITUTION: An organodisiloxane of formula I [R is H or a (substituted) 1-18C hydrocarbyl group] is reacted with a chlorosilane of formula II (n is 3 or 4) in the presence of a phosphonitrilic chloride catalyst and a cocatalyst selected from the group consisting of an amide of formula III [R2 is H or a (substituted) 1-8C monovalent hydrocarbyl group; and X is R22N- or formula IV (R3 is a 5-7C divalent hydrocarbyl group)], a urea (derivative) of formula V and cyanuric acid, [preferably tetramethylurea or N',N'-bis(2-hydroxyethyl) urea], preferably at 20-55°C for 20-70 hours to obtain the desired compound of formula VI (R1 is R or H).
