PURPOSE: To obtain physiologically active substances, such as dechlorogriseofulvin, by extracting mycelia or a medium of culturing Coriolus vernicipes after cultivation with an organic solvent.

CONSTITUTION: Coriolus vernicipes is cultured in the Raulin or malt-sucrose medium aerobically with stirring, and the resulting mycelia and medium are extracted with an organic solvent, e.g. chloroform or methanol. The extract is then separated and purified by column chromatography over silica gel, to give physiologically active substances e.g. dechlorogriseofulvin, cytochalasin D, or ergosterol.
