Abstract:

To obtain a silazane as a preceramic polymer, especially a high- molecular-weight polysilazane, siloxazane and a high-molecular-weight polysiloxazane by cleaving an Si-N containing precursor with a hydrogen donor and reacting the product of cleavage, etc., in the presence of a transition metal catalyst.

The preparation method is one used to prepare a silazane or a siloxazane useful as a preceramic polymer and comprising the steps of (a) using an oligomer having a -R'2Si-A- structure or the like as a starting substance, (b) providing a transition metal catalyst and (c) reacting the starting substance in the presence of the transition metal catalyst with hydrogen or a hydrogen donor wherein A in step a is NR, and the starting substance forms part of a silazane or a hydrogen donor represented by H-X-R (in the formulas, A in step a is H or Si; R is H, boryl, a lower alkyl or the like, silyl or polysilyl; R' is H, amino, a lower alkyl or the like; silyl or polysilyl; and X is selected among NR, NR-NR and NR-R-NR).
