Abstract:
To correctly judge whether or not a linear scale has a smudge even during a normal printing sequence.
A plurality of sensors 20 n1-20 nn each for outputting a pulse signal by reading the linear scale 18 set along a scanning direction S of a carriage 10 are installed at the carriage 10 where a printing head for discharging ink is set. A controller 14 counts the pulse signal outputted from each of the plurality of sensors 20 n1-20 nn and judges on the basis of the count value whether or not the linear scale 18 has the smudge.
