PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing unit for a sheet-feed printing machine which reduces the consumption of a plate film compared with a conventional printing unit. SOLUTION: This printing unit for the sheet-feed printing machine is equipped with a feed reel 5 for feeding a plate film l to the outer peripheral face of a plate cylinder 2 from a recessed part 4 formed on the outer peripheral face, a take-up reel 6 for taking up the plate film l fed from the feed reel 5 into the recessed part 4 from the outer peripheral face and an imaging device 7 for forming an image in the plate film l on the outer peripheral face. In addition, the printing unit feeds the plate film l to the outer peripheral face from the feed reel 5 each time the printing process is performed and forms an image in the plate film l in the printing process so that the take-up reel side end part l3 of the outer peripheral face comes to the forward end part of a sheet. In this printing unit, a control device 20 for controlling the feed of the plate film l to be fed to the outer peripheral face of the plate cylinder 2 from the feed reel 5 based on the length of the sheet to be printed, is provided.
