PURPOSE: To facilitate assembling of a process cartridge by sealing a developer having the service life equivalent to the service life of the process cartridge in a developing device which can be attached and detached to and from a main body, and sealing hermetically the developer therein and making the replenishment infeasible.
CONSTITUTION: Image forming means such as a developing device 5, a cleaning means 14 and an electrostatic charger 4 provided around a photosensitive drum 3 are united to one body and are enclosed in a light shielding wall, thereby constituting a process cartridge 30. The cartridge so constituted that all the units in the cartridge 30 are simultaneously exchanged in the stage of exchanging the drum 3 thus allowing an easier maintenance operation. The attaching and detaching of the cartridge 30 to and from the main body are accomplished by moving the cartirdge 30 in the rotating axis direction of the drum 3 along the rail on the body side of the copying machine.
