To provide a process capable of preventing the corrosion of a material of an apparatus due to the water-soluble chlorine-containing compound produced as a by-product in producing a hydrocarbon oil using a raw material oil containing an oxygen-containing organic compound and a non-water-soluble chlorine-containing compound.
The raw material oil containing an oxygen-containing organic compound and a non-water soluble chlorine-containing compound is brought into contact with a specific hydrogenation catalyst in the presence of hydrogen to produce a hydrocarbon oil by hydrogenation deoxygenation of the oxygen-containing organic compound and water in a water vapor state and to convert the non-water-soluble chlorine-containing compound to a water-soluble chlorine-containing compound. The obtained reaction product is maintained in such a state that water is a water vapor and is brought into contact with a nitrogen-containing Broensted base compound which has a boiling point at normal pressures of not higher than 100C and is water-soluble to obtain a treated product. The obtained treated product is cooled to a temperature of not higher than the temperature of liquefying the water in a water vapor state to form an aqueous phase containing the water-soluble chlorine-containing compound and the nitrogen-containing Broensted base compound, and thereafter the aqueous phase is separated from the treated oil to obtain a produced oil containing a hydrocarbon oil.
