To provide a method for producing a substituted acetylene polymer which is excellent in stereoregularity, contains a high-mol.-wt. component, and has a two-peak mol.wt. distribution effective for improving moldability.
A substituted acetylene represented by HC≡CR3 (wherein R3 is an alkyl, allyl or aryl group or the like) is polymerized in the presence of a catalyst system comprising a catalyst represented by [LIrX]2 (wherein L is a compound having a multiple bond; and X is a halogen atom), a cocatalyst represented by RLi or R13N (wherein R is an alkyl, vinyl or substituted vinyl group; and R1 is an alkyl), and optionally an additive represented by R23P (wherein R2 is an alkyl or aryl group) and/or L1 (which is a compound having a multiple bond).
