Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for a pyrimidine ether derivative useful as a medicine and an agrochemical by bringing a 2-oxo-1-cycloalkanecarboxylic acid derivative into contact with hydrogen in the presence of a heterogeneous catalytic hydrogen contact catalyst.

CONSTITUTION: A 2-oxo-1-cycloalkanecarboxylic acid derivative of formula I (R1 is H, halogen or a lower alkyl; R2 is H, alkali metal, ammonium or an organic ammonium; (n) is 0-2) is brought into contact with a hydrogen gas in the presence of a heterogeneous catalytic hydrogen contact catalyst (e.g. Rh/c) in a solvent (e.g. water) under normal pressure to 200kg/cm2 to give a 2-hydroxy-1-cycloalkanecarboxylic acid derivative of formula II. In the case of using Rh/c and Raney-nickel among the catalyst, transisomer of the 2- hydroxy-1-cycloalkanecarboxylic acid derivative useful as a synthetic intermediate for a pyrimidine ether derivative-based herbicide can be obtained in high ratio.
