PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for producing an aromatic compound by a simple method industrially advantageously, by reacting industrially inexpensively obtainable diisopropylketone with a 1,4- dihalogenobutane as raw materials in the presence of a base.
CONSTITUTION: 1mol diisopropyl ketone shown by the formula II is reacted with preferably 1W10mol 1,4-dihalogenobutane (preferably dichlorobutane or dibromobutane with respect to cost) shown by the formula III (X is halogen) in an aprotic polar solvent such as toluene, etc., in the presence of a base preferably at room temperature W 200°C and treated by a common procedure such as extraction, washing, distillation, etc., to isolate the amed compound shown by the formula I. Sodium amide or sodium hydride is especially preferable as the base and the amount of it used is preferably 1W10mol based on 1mol compound shown by the formula II.
USE: A raw material for an aroma compound such as 1-allyl-2,2,7,7- teteramethylcycloheptane-1-ol, etc.
