Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound useful for a detergent, a cosmetic composition, etc., as a neutral surfactant free from toxicity and irritation, by acylating glucose amine chlorohydrate and reacting the acylated compound with glycerol in the presence of an acid catalyst.
SOLUTION: This new 2,3-dihydroxypropyl-2-(1-oxoalkyl)amino-2 deoxyglucopyranoside of the formula (R is a saturated or an unsaturated 5-21C alkyl) and is useful for a determent and a cosmetic composition as a neutral surfactant having no toxicity and no irritation to skin and mucosa and not harmful to environment. The compound is obtained by reacting glucose amine chlorohydrate with a 6-22C acid chloride (e.g. octylic acid chloride) in the molar ratio of the acid chloride/glucose amine chlorohydrate of 0.7-1.3 to give an N-acyl glucose amine and then reacting this compound with glycerol in the presence of an acid catalyst (e.g. methanesulfonic acid).
