Abstract:
PURPOSE: To produce the title compound almost with scarce formation of tar and markedly reduced formation of high-molecular-weight polymers, by effecting the reaction between an olefin and maleic anhydride in the presence of water and/or carboxylic acid with heat.
CONSTITUTION: In the production of an alkenylsuccinic anhydride by reaction of an olefin such as 1-dodecene with maleic anhydride with heat, preferably at 180W250°C, water and/or carboxylic acid such as acetic, lauric or maleic acid are added to the reaction system, preferably in an amount of 1W20mol.% based on the maleic anhydride. The process according to the present invention is simple in operations and advantageous in industry.
