Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain on an industrial scale in high yield an alkoxytriazolinone useful as an intermediate for producing herbicidally active compounds.
SOLUTION: This alkoxytriazolinone of formula IV is obtained by the following procedure: an iminothiocarbonic diester of formula I (R1 is an alkyl, alkenyl or the like; R2 is an alkyl, alkenyl or the like; R3 is an aryl, alkyl or the like) is reacted with a dicarbazinic ester of formula II (R4 is an alkyl or the like), as necessary in the presence of a reaction auxiliary (e.g. protonic acid) and/or a diluent (e.g. methanol) at -20 to +50°C (the 1st reaction step) to form a semicarbazide derivative of formula III and/ or the corresponding tautomer as intermediate while expelling mercaptan formed, and the intermediate of formula III is subsequently subjected to a cyclizing condensation reaction at 20-100°C in the presence of a base (e.g. sodium methanolate) and a diluent (the 2nd reaction step).
