To suppress the deactivation of a catalyst and produce an amine in high selectivity, yield and space time yield without forming an olefin oligomer by reacting an olefin with ammonia or a primary or a secondary amine in the presence of a specific heterogeneous catalyst.
(B) A compound of formula I (R3 to R6 are each H, a 1-20C alkyl, a 2-20C alkenyl, etc.; R3 or R5 is a 21-200C alkyl or R3 and R5 are together a 2-12C alkylene chain) is reacted with (C) a compound of formula II[R1 and R2 are together an (un)saturated 3-9C alkylene chain] in the presence of (A) a heterogeneous catalyst which is a pillared clay (e.g. an aluminum, a ziconiunm, a titanium, a chromium, a gallium, an iron, a tantalum or a silicon pillared clay treated with an acid, especially hydrochloric acid, hydrofluoric acid, sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid or oxalic acid) at 200-350°C under 100-300 bars pressure to afford a compound of formula III.
