Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an organic halogen compound by a catalytic gaseous-phase reaction of the vapor of an aromatic compound which is solid at room temperature and needs vaporizing for the reaction, with a halogen gas in the presence of a catalyst without such a problem that a self-condensation product of the aromatic compound formed before it is vaporized causes different troubles, such as clogging of piping, reduction of catalytic activity, quality deterioration of the product, which have been proved in conventional processes before and after the vaporization.
SOLUTION: This production of an organic halogen compound by a catalytic gaseous-phase reaction comprises steps of: melting and transferring an aromatic compound that is solid at room temperature and used as a starting material; vaporizing the compound; mixing the vapor of the compound with a halogen; then forming an objective aromatic halogen compound by a catalytic gaseous- phase reaction, on the condition that in the step of melting and transferring the aromatic compound, the retention time of the aromatic compound in the molten condition is 120min or shorter, and the moisture content of the aromatic compound is 2000ppm or less.
