Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the title high-quality polymer easily and inexpensively by polycondensing a specified oligomer obtained by a specified process with an alkali dicarboxylate in a reaction medium comprising water and a water- immiscible solvent. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic polyester carbonate is obtained by reacting a bisphenol chlorocarbonate oligomer obtained by reacting an aqueous alkaline (e.g. NaOH) solution of a bisphenol (e.g. bisphenol A) with phosgene in the absence of any solvent with an alkali salt of a dicarboxylic acid (e.g. terephthalic acid) in a reaction medium comprising water and a water-immiscible solvent in the presence of a catalyst. This process can provide a high-quality aromatic polyester carbonate very simply and inexpensively as compared with the conventional process.
