Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an artificial zeolite having a high cation exchange capacity in a short time by heating incineration ash at a specified temp. in the presence of water and an alkali.
SOLUTION: One or more incineration ashes selected from incineration ash of paper making sludge, incineration ash of activated sludge and incineration ash of combustible waste and, optionally, ≥20 wt.% glass are mixed to prepare a mixture. The ashes have ≥45% silica content, ≤1% moisture content, ≤5% ignition loss, a specific gravity of ≥1.95 and ≥2,700 cm2/g specific surface area and ≥75% of the total ashes pass through a 44 μm standard sieve. The mixture, water and an alkali are fed into an autoclave 1 with an agitator from a starting material feed hole 6 by way of a screw conveyor 2, satd. steam is blown from a steam inlet 8 to keep 2-30 kg/cm2 internal pressure and they are subjected to a reaction by heating to 120-230°C. The resultant reaction product is classified to obtain the objective artificial zeolite having 20-30 μm particle diameter and ≥300 cmol (+).kg-1 cation exchange capacity.
