PURPOSE: To obtain a basic salt as a stable and clear soln. free from the generation of turbidity by blending oil-soluble alkyl salicylic acid with long chain hydrocarbon substituted succinic acids having a specified average molecular weight and mixing it with an alkaline earth metal hydroxide.
CONSTITUTION: One or more kinds of succinic acids or succinic anhydrides having at least 10C oligomer or a polymer as a long chain hydrocarbon substituted radical, which has a number average molecular weight from 120 to 5,000 and is derived from an olefin is blended with 12-26C oil-soluble alkyl salilcylic acid. Then, this is mixed with an equivalent or excess alkaline earth metal hydroxide and/or oxide in a hydrocarbon solvent and into the obtd. mixture, CO2 is introduced by an amt. of at least 0.5 equivalent to one equivalent of excess alkaline earth metal, and if residual solids and an aq. layer are present, they are removed to obtain the objective compd. useful as an excellent detergent additives for oil or the active components of oil compsns.
