Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a copolymer, useful as optical, automotive, electronic parts, etc., having a low yellowness degree and excellent in transparency, heat resistance, etc., by reacting a terpolymer, etc., of maleic anhydride/olefins with an alkylamine, etc., under specific conditions.
CONSTITUTION: This method for producing a copolymer is to use an aromatic alcohol as a solvent in at least imidating reaction in reacting a copolymer, obtained from 40-60mol% maleic anhydride, 60-40mol% olefins and 0-20mol% other copolymerizable monomers and having 1-10.0 relative solution viscosity, with a 1-6C alkylamine and/or ammonia. Thereby, the copolymer containing a succinimide unit of the formula (R1 is H, a 1-6C alkyl or a cycloalkyl) and excellent in mechanical strength is obtained.
