Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a heat-resistant cycloolefin polymer by polymerizing a cycloolefin in the presence of a catalyst comprising a transition metal compd. and an organoaluminumoxy compd. SOLUTION: A cycloolefin of formula II is polymerized in the presence of a catalyst comprising a transition metal compd. of formula I and an organoaluminumoxy compd. In the formulas, M is a transition metal of the group 4; p is 1 or higher; q and r are each 0 or higher provided p+q+r=4; R<1> and R<2> are each H, halogen or a 1-20C (substd.) hydrocarbon group provided they may form a ring; X<1> is H, halogen, a 1-16C (substd.) hydrocarbon group, amido or a 1-16C hydrocarbonoxy group; X<2> is a cyclopentadienyl group or a 5-24C (substd.) cyclopentadienyl deriv. group; R<3> to R<14> are each H, a 1-20C hydrocarbon group or a group contg. halogen, O or N: R<11> may combine with R<13> or R<14> to form a ring and so may R<12> with R<13> or R<14> ; and k is 0 or 1 or higher.
