PURPOSE: To produce a desulfurizing agent excellent in desulfurizing capability at a low cost by immersing spherical porous particles made from a compd. selected from the group consisting of Al2O3, SiO2, and MgO in an iron oxide slurry to thereby deposit iron oxide in pores of the particles.
CONSTITUTION: A slurry 10 of a solid substance mainly comprising iron oxide is put into a tightly sealable vacuum container 1; spherical porous particles 11 made from a raw material mainly comprising at least one compd. selected from the group consisting of aluminum oxide, silicon oxide, and magnesium oxide are immersed in the slurry 10; and simultaneously the inside pressure of the container 1 is reduced with a vacuum pump 4 to impregnate the solid substance into pores of the particles 11, giving the desurfurizing agent. The concn. of the substance in the slurry is pref. adjusted to 20-65wt.%, and the particle size of it is pref. adjusted so that particles having 5μm or lower account for at least 95wt.% of it.
