PURPOSE: To safely produce a dialkyl carbonate useful as solvent of middle boiling point range or carbonylation/alkylating agent in the presence of the catalyst while raising the temperature without using oxidizing substance forming an ignitable mixture, by industrial production in a large scal.
CONSTITUTION: This compound is produced by allowing CO to react with alkylnitrite of the formula RONO (R is a 1-4C normal or branched-chain alkyl) in the presence of carried platinum metal catalyst while raising the temp. in an inert gas atmosphere by continuous vapor phase reaction. Then, the catalyst is modified with element of one kind or more selected from among Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Pb, Mo, W, V, Sn, Bi, S, Se, Te, Au, Sb and As of 0.01-8wt.% based on total catalyst, and without using oxidizing substance, the reaction is performed after adding alkohol of the formula ROH, if need. Thus, conversion to CO2 of CO bringing depression of yield is restrained and object compound is selectively obtained with a high CO conversion ratio.
