Title:
PRODUCTION OF DIAMOND
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS60255695
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain granular diamond single crystals in a relatively simple apparatus with good mass productivity at a low cost, by extremely quenching a molten metal containing graphite or C compound in an unoxidizing atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:10g graphite spherules having 30mum average grain diameter is put into the bottom of a graphite nozzle 2, and Co pellets (10mm. diameter) are placed on the spherules. The whole apparatus is then decompressed to 10<-1>- 10<-2>Torr, and Ar is then introduced thereinto to give 1.2-1.5atm internal pressure. The Co pellets in the nozzle 2 are melted at about 1,500 deg.C (the melting point of the Co is 1,492 deg.C) by a high-frequency induction heating coil 6 to give a state of containing the graphite. Ar gas under a higher pressure than that of the Ar gas in the apparatus is introduced from the upper opening of the tube 1, and the molten metal 3 is sprayed from the bottom opening of the nozzle 2 onto a metal drum 4 rotating at a high speed and extremely quenched to prepare a thin metal belt 5, which is then etched with a strong acid to dissolve the metal. The resultant formed diamond is then separated.
