PURPOSE: To obtain a high-quality coke having excellent formability and little fluctuation of quality and suitable for the production of artificial graphite, etc., by supplying fine particles and coarse particles of green coke to a calcination furnace while controlling the mixing ratio according to the variation in the powder content of the green coke.
CONSTITUTION: Green coke produced by delayed coking process is classified into a fine particle fraction and a coarse particle fraction. Both fractions are mixed together while adjusting the mixing ratio according to the variation in the powder content of the fine particle fraction in such a manner as to keep the powder content of the obtained mixture at a constant level. The obtained mixture is calcined to form the objective coke. Preferably, the flow of the fine particle fraction is passed through an on-line particle size measuring apparatus to detect the powder content of the fraction and the flow ratio of the fine particle fraction to the coarse particle fraction is controlled by the detected signal in a manner so as to keep the powder content of the green coke supplied to a calcination furnace to a constant level.
