Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound useful as drug, agricultural chemical, other physiologically active substance and synthetic intermediate thereof by oxidizing squalene with a bacterium belonging to the genus Acinetobacter.
CONSTITUTION: Squalene is converted with a bacterium (e.g. FERM 10,793) belonging to the genus Acinetobacter capable of oxidizing squalene into 4,9- dimethyl-12-hydroxy-4,8-dodecadienoic acid shown by the formula (R is hydroxy or carboxyl) or 4,9-dimethyl-4,8-dodecadienoic diacid, which is optionally converted into a salt thereof and the acid or the salt is collected. The culture condition, for example, is 25-40°C for 2-5 days by shaking culture.
