To obtain high quality and high calorie lamp oil where smoke point or the like is improved, easily obtainable from heavy fractions of petroleum by catalytically cracking raw oil to be catalytically cracked, by the fractional distillation of a lamp oil fraction and by hydrogenation treatment.
The purpose of this invention is achieved by catalytically cracking raw oil to be catalytically cracked, by the fractional distillation of a lamp oil fraction from the product oil preferably at 140-240°C and by the hydrogenation treatment of the lamp oil fraction (or by mixing 0.5-10 vol.% lamp oil fraction with 90-99.5 vol.% direct distillation lamp oil and then by hydrogenation treatment). In the case of the hydrogenation treatment by a fixed bed flow method reaction, reaction conditions preferably are set in such a way that reaction temperature is 250-390°C, hydrogen partial pressure is 1-10 Mpa, liquid hourly space velocity is 0.1-10 h.-1 and hydrogen-raw oil ratio is 100-1,000 Nm3/kL.
