Title:
PRODUCTION OF METAL-CERAMICS COMPOSITE MATERIAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2000178668
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide a method for producing a metal-ceramics composite material free from the need of a pressurizing device even in the case the metal to be infiltrated is an aluminum alloy which does not contain Mg, capable of easily producing a large product and also capable of easily producing an article having a complicated shape.

In the method for producing a metal-ceramics composite material in which ceramics powder or a fiber as a reinforcing material is compounded into a metal as a base material, the metal is composed of an aluminum alloy which does not contain Mg, the ceramics powder or fiber is composed of silicon nitride powder having the average particle size of ≥1 μm, and, as to the compounding method, a preform having a powder packing ratio of 30 to 80 vol.% is formed of the silicon nitride powder, and the formed preform is brought into contact with a melted aluminum alloy in a vacuum or in an inert gas under the nitrogen partial pressure of ≤1×10-3 Torr, by which the aluminum alloy is infiltrated into the preform.
