To produce a metallized coated plastic product without depending on etching by vacuum-vapor depositing decorative metal on a plastic substrate to form metallic islands and applying a top coat to the metallized substrate.
The surface of a plastic substrate is, preferably, applied with a base coat and is thereafter vacuum-deposited with metal excellent in luster such as iridium to form metal islands. Preferably, this metal depositions are intermittently applied circularly in substance and also to a thickness of 50 to 3,000. The obtd. metallized substrate is applied with a top coat to attain the strengthening of the corrosion prevention of the deposited metal and its adhesion force to the substrate. As the base coat and top coat, the one obtd. by incorporating transparent urethane resin with organic functional silicon substance such as silane by 0.1 to 10wt.% is preferably used, and this is applied preferably by executing hardening treatment at 150 to 375°F for 10 to 60min after the coating formation.
